‘Ringer’ Review: “Shut up and Eat Your Bologna” (1.09)
Post contains spoilers
Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar) begins to realize she is developing feelings for Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd), while Henry (Kristoffer Polaha) and Andrew’s business partner Olivia (guest star Jamie Murray) bond over common interests. Malcolm (Mike Colter) is suspicious of Bridget’s new NA sponsor Charlie (guest star Billy Miller) and Bridget makes an appointment with Siobhan’s therapist (guest star Merle Dandridge), hoping it will help her discover some insight into her sister’s life.
Looks can be deceiving was definitely the lesson learned in last night’s episode of Ringer. As Bridget became aware of some external threats that the audience already knew about and acknowledge some inner truths that we were all waiting for her to about the life, she is currently living. Not to mention some interesting developments in the case of the disappearing former best friend, Gemma.
Everything is sunshine and kisses for Andrew and Bridget, wait kisses… Yes, it seems that Bridget has whole-heartedly embraced the idea of being Andrew’s loving wife. But, its all still just a cover right? That might not be so as Bridget discovers while attempting to unearth more of Siobhan’s secrets. She decides to make an appointment with the doctor who prescribed her sister anti-depressants. She soon finds herself sitting through her sister’s therapy session. In one thrilling moment of “what do you think your doing coming here as Siobhan?” all of our collective hearts including Bridgett’s, but alas Bridget recovered remember the name Tyler had whispered to her, Cora. A part of me thinks these almost reveals are becoming trite but considering the fact that my breath still catches at every almost reveal I would say they are definitely doing something right.
So, Bridget discovers that Siobhan’s anti-depressants are really to treat her paranoia over her possible stalker and this leads her to quite the discovery about Charlie. A discover that Malcolm seems to be close to making as well. Malcolm is staying with Charlie and while he may be singing his praises will at an AA meeting, he is also noticing some inconsistencies. Malcolm and Bridget are a great team as both their snooping leads them one startling “truth” about Charlie, well what they think is the truth about Charlie. You see Malcolm and Bridget think that Charlie is Siobhan’s stalker the one that the therapist thought she was just being paranoid about. They have yet to discover that he’s really Siobhan’s henchman or that it is her twin who is pulling all the strings.
Siobhan it turns out did not just take advantage of Bridget calling her for a place to hide out; she planned her escaping towards her in the first place. Siobhan has quite an elaborate plan set up a therapist she has been purposing feeling with tainted information. Bring her sister to the Hamptons and making Bridget taking over her life the only option. What else is Siobhan up too? What else has she set in motion? These plans and motives have yet to be revealed. But what we did discover is that Siobhan didn’t have her former best friend killed in cold blood. No, she has her tied up in a basement feeding her bologna instead. Yes, the biggest reveal of the night Gemma is still very much alive and as luck would have, Malcolm almost discovered her.
Time for theory of the episode: I am going to say that Gemma will be rescued but it will be by Bridget. This will once again bring Bridget over to her side and the secret will remain hidden. What is your theory?
In the meanwhile, Olivia is hell bent on getting Henry to facilitate her way into Gemma’s father’s portfolio. She wants Andrew to be the single-minded corporate shark he was but his happiness with Faux-Siobhan is getting in the way. Olivia is a much bigger threat then Bridget thinks, she had better watch her back cause Andrew’s partner has claws and those claws are armed with an incriminating Siobhan and Henry picture. And now that Bridget has admitted to herself that she is falling in love with Andrew, she has even more to lose.
‘Ringer’ takes a break for thanksgiving week but will be back with its Mid-Season finale Nov.29th. Will Gemma be discovered? Will Bridget and Malcolm find out the real truth about Charlie? It seems the more answers Ringer gives us, the more questions are raised. Keep up the good work!
