‘Dirty Soap’ Review: “The Cold & The Beautiful”
It is the season finale of Dirty Soap… I know, didn’t it just start? Well just as my addiction to Soap Opera’s has been a life long event, my new addiction to Dirty Soap seems to know no end. But alas, this first season of Dirty Soap does.
The first season went out with a camping trip where some hard truths were faced. Everyone came up together to spend the weekend in the great outdoors.
We saw John Paul and Farah obtaining supplies along with Danny and his partner, Nathaniel. This foursome can be a lot of fun to watch as they interact in their own comedic bubble, when not discussing the dreaded subject of Marriage that is. At the heart of the matter, all Farah really wants is a straight answer from JP. Either a yes, we will get married someday or a no, I don’t believe in marriage and never want to. She has a bit of a breakdown at the campsite exacerbated by Danny’s prodding and a whole lot of tequila. In the end, Danny should have minded his own business as both Jenna and Galen advised. Because when they were back home, Farah and JP worked it all out. He finally gave her an answer…. Will this mean a wedding in the near future?
Jenna and Galen, the only married couple in the bunch, came up with Willy, their golden retriever and for once were an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Jenna is an interesting woman, and as the wife of a soap star, she must often feel a lot of pressure to look and behave a certain way. This can often come across as being overly insecure and in need of constant reassurance. So it was great to see in this episode what it is exactly that Galen loves about her. She is funny, witty, and brings a sense of stability that perfectly balances Galen’s gregarious nature. Jenna and Galen get a gold star in the finale as they stood up for John Paul and included everyone into the group.
Brandon and Nadia were an absolute riot on the camping trip. Nadia “ The Goddess of the Wilderness” Bjorlin, was happy and relaxed even outside of her element, and that was in large part because of Brandon. The drama for this happy couple unfortunately came her Fary, her mother. Fary went so far as she invited Nadia to lunch so she could set her up with what she considers a “proper gentlemen”. A Brazilian millionaire no less, its true, he seemed like a perfectly nice man, but that doesn’t change the inappropriateness of what she did to her daughter. Brandon was right when she said her mother had no boundaries, and she definitely crossed them this time. But, you cannot help but feel sympathetic for Nadia, this is her mother after all, the only parent she has left. So, you can understand why she desperately wants to keep the peace between them. But its clear that Fary is forcing her hand and from how the Finale ended, it looks like Brandon may have won this round. I wouldn’t count momma Bjorlin out though.
Things for the single girl contingent seemed to finally be headed in the right direction for Kelly at least. The soap world has been in turmoil since the resent cancellations and rumors of General Hospital’s impending doom have been making the rounds for months. So, it should come as no surprise that Kelly would want to hedge her bets and try to give her self something to fall back on. She is interested in starting a fashion line and capitalizing on her name while she still can. I applaud her for this and while I hope General Hospital last another 45 years, I understand where she is coming. Kelly’s vivacious personality is always entertaining. When she shows up on the camp scene the party begins. She also gives Brandon and Farah some much needed advise, respectively. While she has never been married, she was in a relationship the longest of the group and as we saw her, words were definitely heeded. Unfortunately, Kirsten Storms was still MIA, her medical condition has kept her off both Dirty Soap and General Hospital. As Kelly said, we all hope she will get better soon as she is definitely missed.
So, what did you think of this first season of Dirty Soap? And will you be coming back for more?
