I think my mouth may still be on the floor from the ending of last nights, American Horror Story. For a show that I initially thought had no potential…except for naked Dylan McDermott…it’s been surprising me more and more each week. I have to say there are very few shows on television right now that can make me go…”Holy Sh*t,” every single week.
This week we learn more about Larry, the man who was badly burned supposedly while murdering his wife and two daughters. Larry, has also been stalking Ben the past few weeks, and even killed Ben’s psycho ex-lover, who happened to be preggers with Ben’s child. Well, like most people involved with the “murder house”, Larry has secrets of his own.
From the opener this week, we already new Larry was and still is desperately in love with Constance. Later, thanks to Ben, we find out that, Larry was not responsible for the murder of his family. In fact, in a flashback, we see how he dumped his wife, Lorraine, and told her to leave with their daughters so he could live in the house with Constance. So distraught over this, Lorraine goes upstairs and burns herself and her daughters to death. After spending years in a mental institution, Larry was released. It was fun to see how Larry is tied in with this peculiar and twisted house. It was also good to see Larry’s relationship with Constance and makes us wonder why Constance seduced Larry back in 1994.
I found the whole, Mr. Eskandarian storyline to be a bit too much, but at the same time I enjoyed watching his scenes with Constance. He was a complete jerk to her, and it was interesting to see how Constance will always have such a devotion to the house because “her family” is there. Speaking of her family, besides Tate, we find out that not only does she have a murderer for a son, but she kept her horribly disfigured son Beau (what a nice name…) tied up in the attic like Sloth from Goonies. But to add to the layers of Constance’s sick and twisted love for her family, we find out she had Larry smother Beau with a pillow…motherly love at its best, people
Another layer to this weeks show, is how they’re dealing with Violet seeing all the ghosts of the house. I rather enjoy that she is embracing the house and its spirits. I also enjoy her relationship with Tate. Even though he’s dead, I feel that they really do help each other in a very strange way. It does worry me though, that it seems Violet is really falling for Tate and for the house…I’d rather not see Violet end up trapped there like the rest of the spirits.
Not only does Vivian get her first masturbation scene this week, it sure is a kinky one. In an erotic dream, she imagines not only the cop on top of her, but her husband and creepy Rubber Man. Later she finds out she’s having not one, but two babies….It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Does anyone else also feel that something is up with that doctor? I get weird vibes from her.
What I did love about the rich Armenian, Mr. Eskandarian, is that his storyline of him trying to buy the house and tare it down, tied the storylines of all the characters together. This show tends to have so many things going on within one episode, that it can be a little chaotic. They are good however, at tying things in and really making sure that you understand what is going on, all the while leaving mystery at every turn. I liked that the selling of the house led to Vivian and the realtor Marcy going on the murder tour. It was creepy to see Nora Montgomery and her husband finally end their twisted story. The mutilated Franken-baby, Thaddeus, wasn’t seen, but boy was that a creepy ending. Her chest bleeding from trying to nurse the monster was something else…I do not blame Nora for ending their lives, I probably would too. Violet then finding the pictures of the Montgomery’s and showing her mother was also an added touch. It will be interesting to see how Vivian starts reacting, now that she knows she’s seeing ghosts of the murdered.
But…that murder scene….never did I think I would enjoy a murder scene so much in my life. Don’t get me wrong, it left me cringing and also extremely disturbed, however, that man deserved what was coming. It was also fun to see Larry, Constance and Moira working together toward a common purpose. When Constance delivers such lines like, “After all these years, Moira, I’ve finally come to appreciate your talents,” you can’t help but laugh. That noise when she bites down on Eskandarian’s pride and joy…..what a way to go, getting your penis bit off, then strangled with a plastic bag.
I’m looking forward to seeing how these three work together in the future. I’d also love to see more on Moira and her gift of looking young and hot to men, yet old and creepy to woman.
