‘Once Upon a Time’ Recap: “The Price of Gold” (1.04)
This post contains spoilers
Tonight on Once Upon a Time, we learn the real story behind Cinderella and her less than perfect Fairytale. With a murdered fairy godmother, and only Rumpelstiltskin to help her catch her prince, Cinderella makes a not so magical deal.
We start out in the fairytale world; Cinderella is cleaning while her step-mother and step-sisters go off to the Royal ball. Left behind, her fairy Godmother comes to her rescue, only to be blown to pixie-dust by the oh-so-evil Rumpelstiltskin. Taking her wand, Cinderella begs Rumpel to give her the life she deserves. Rumpel reminds her that, “all magic comes with a price,” but she takes the deal anyway, naively thinking that he’d only want gold or jewels.
Back in the real word, Sheriff Sexy….I mean Sheriff Graham, finds Emma entering the diner and offers her a job as the deputy. She turns it down, but he tells her to think about it. Upon entering the diner, Regina confronts Emma and lets her know that she doesn’t believe her to be a threat any longer. Regina does encourage her however, to make a clean break with Henry and leave.
After Emma spills her hot chocolate, she goes to the laundry room where she meets a pregnant maid, Ashley (aka Cinderella). They bond with each other over being young pregnant mothers. Emma tells Ashley that she can raise a child, but only if she’s ready.
Later that night, Ashley breaks into Mr. Gold’s shop. When Mr. Gold confronts her, she pepper-sprays him and steals what looks like his keys.
The next morning, Regina leaves Henry to go to a “Council Meeting”, telling him he has to stay home and can’t go anywhere with Emma, or he’ll be in big trouble – not like that has every stopped him before.
While Emma is unpacking her things, talking to Sister Mary, Mr. Gold shows up and asks for Emma’s help finding Ashley. Not knowing what Mr. Gold is after, Emma agrees to go look for her.
When Henry shows up at Sister Mary’s, he convinces Emma to let him come with her by playing the, “I’m just trying to spend time with you,” card.
Flashing back to fairytale world, Cinderella or as they call her “Ella” has just married her prince, Thomas. During the reception Rumpel shows up, and reminds her of the deal she’s made. When she asks what he wants, foolishly thinking it as her riches, Rumpel replies, her first born child. Later, Ella tells Thomas that she’s pregnant, and that she made a deal with Rumpelstiltskin. They set a plan in motion to stop the deal from happening.
Emma meanwhile tries to find Ashley by taking a trip to the baby-daddies house (aka Prince Thomas). Emma finds out that her boyfriend didn’t want to break-up with Ella, but that his father made him and forced Ashley to make a deal with Mr. Gold to sell her baby to him. Furious, Emma and Henry try to find Ashley before she leaves town. After finding her on the side of the road having the baby, they take her to a hospital.
Once coming up with a plan to trap Rumpelstiltskin with a cursed quill, Thomas convinces Ella to make a “fake” deal with Rumpel so that she doesn’t have to give up her baby. The plan works, and Rumpel is captured. Right after this happens however, Ella becomes ill and Thomas goes to get her some water. When it passes Ella goes to find Thomas only to discover him missing. When she confronts Rumpel, he reminds her again that, “all magic has a price.”
At the hospital Mr. Gold shows up and thanks Emma for bringing Ashley to him. Emma threatens to get the cops involved if he tries to take Ashley’s baby. He only agrees to leave them alone if Emma makes a deal with him. She agrees, much to our dismay. Meanwhile, Ashley reunites with her prince charming and they name their baby girl Alexandra.
While Emma and Henry have been out saving the day, Regina hasn’t been at a council meeting, she’s been sleeping with an unknown man.
Getting Henry home just in time for Regina not to notice, Emma calls Sheriff Graham and accepts his offer to be deputy.
Just when we think it’s over, we see Sheriff Graham was the man, Regina was sleeping with.
Well there you have it, the slightly more adult version of Cinderella and her charming Prince. Did you like this week’s episode? Are you fuming over the fact Sheriff Sexy is sleeping with the Evil Queen? Let us know! And don’t forget to tune in TWO weeks from now, for the next episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
