With just weeks until cameras begin to roll, we may finally have our first ever live-action Marvel television series asS.H.I.E.L.D. gets underway. But while the show might just be the newest drama in the ABC roster, the network has had major success this fall with the musical freshman hit Nashville. Now, it seems ABC will try to combine both in a certain aspect as they’ve tapped one of the breakout stars of the new series will join our cast of agents to add some more personality among the new roster of roles.

THR reports that Nashville star Chloe Bennet has been cast as the sixth and final series regular of Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D.pilot. Bennet joins fellow newcomers to the Marvel Universe Ming-Na, Elizabeth Henstridge, Brett Dalton and Iain De Caestecker, while Clark Gregg will be reprising his role as the fan-favorite Phil Coulson.

In the series, the actress will play “Skye, a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She’s edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature.” Bennet will play “Skye joins Na’s weapons expert Melinda May, Dalton’s socially awkward yet swift Agent Grant, Henstridge’s science expert Gemma Simmons and De Caestecker’s Leo Fitz, a technology specialist.

Filming for the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot begins next month under the direction of The Avengers‘ helmer Joss Whedon. Joss penned the script alongside brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, while Jed and Maurissa will serve as showrunners should the series be picked up by ABC.
