In terms of horror-filled FOX programming, the network not only has the upcoming acclaimed The Following that embraces a dark serial killer side but also its sister channel is the home ofAmerican Horror Story and this year’s Asylum antics. But its hard to forget that last year, FOX attempted to bring a famous comic property to life in the form of Locke & Key but unfortunately passed in favor of Ryan Murphy’s horror take. Though fellow comic adaptation Powers is still in the works at FX, today good news comes out for one of the franchises while the other may finally fall after attempting a live-action turn for quite some time.
First off, Latino-Review reports that Universal has picked upLocke and Key in the hopes of bringing the series to the big screen in an attempted trilogy. They say that IDW will allow them to do so and it is currently on track to hopefully kick into high gear sometime next year. ”If it works,” they say, “it will be the second haunted house film that Universal does next year, having agreed to finance Guillermo del Toro’s original script CRIMSON PEAK (he is only producing) which does for Haunted Houses what Wonder did for bread.”
Meanwhile, the site continues a number of scoops with the reveal that the attempted adaptation for Powers that has been in the running for quite sometime looks ultimately like it won’t go through. ”Apparently FX filmed their SECOND pilot of Brian Michael Bendis’ Powers comics,” the site reports, “and well apparently this one doesn’t work either. I don’t know if they are going to do a third one or just let it go…”
The TV series has been in development since 2011 but finally hit a major stride when it was filmed last year. In April, all of the previously cast actors and actresses such as Jason Patrick, Alona Tal, Lucy Punch, Khary Payton, Titus Welliver, Vinnie Jones and more were released from their contracts. There is no word on who stepped into their roles, but that really seems like an afterthought now as the project is basically considered dead.
We’ll bring you more on Locke and Key as it develops and if anything is officially released by FX regarding the failure of Powers.
