Unemployment Gets Angry in New ‘Robocop’ Set Photos, First Look at Michael Keaton

With production still ongoing, it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen some shots regarding Robocop. Though some more spy photos have surfaced featuring Abbie Cornish and Joel Kinnaman, we haven’t quite seen the titular hero back in action for some time. As filming continues, there’s still not too many large action sequence being filmed and we don’t quite know how the upcoming remake will play out in terms of the upcoming climax of next summer’s installment. But now, we see that the unemployment crisis will be delivered on the big screen as a new round of photos give us not only a decent look at Kinnaman in costume once more but a number of angry protesters and our first shot of Michael Keaton on-set.

In the photos below, it seems that hard working Americans aren’t too happy with a robot stepping up in a job that another human individual could have easily obtained. Not only that, but the recreation of Alex Murphy into the titular character seems to have sparked a God debate as well, with some thinly veiled nods to the ever-ongoing protests of the Westboro Baptist Church. However it seems Robocop whipping out a gun is more than enough to silence them for the time being.

We don’t get too much from Keaton as he is simply off to the side dressed like any CEO of Omnicorp would, but it’s the shots of Kinnaman as Robocop that truly stand out. Here we get to see the glowing eye and the Batman-like armor in action while protesters seem to be at the wrong end of a gun. Perhaps a little tear gas from the robot may be enough to have the angry mob disperse.

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

With a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel and Michael Keaton with direction by Jose Padilha, Robocop is currently set for release on August 9th, 2013.
