It’s been six months since The Weinstein Company revealed that the long in the works follow-up Sin City: A Dame to Kill Forwould be filmed over the summer. However, co-director and writer Robert Rodriguez has been busy with another sequelMachete Kills which led to the eventual delay for production and a brush of major uncertainty yet again. But today a major milestone has been reached after long last as two new females have joined the cast, one of which will be returning but in a different role.
THR reports that production has begun today for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, with the confirmation of actresses Jamie Chung and Jamie King both joining the cast. Cameras began to roll today in Austin, Texas with Rodriguez directing alongside creator and fellow writer Frank Miller.
King, who starred in the first film as Goldie, will return to play Goldie’s twin sister Wendy while Chung will step into Devon Aoki’s role as katana-gripping assassin Miho. They join previously confirmed returning castmembers Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson, while intriguingly enough not every role has been cast just yet. Clive Owen is expected to star as main character Dwight, while the vital role of Ava penned for Angelina Jolie is currently vacant.
Seen as a prequel to Sin City, the film follows Dwight as he tracks down Ava while Miho holds a very vital key in locating her. Rourke’s Marv returns to play a part despite his demise in the previous film, while Alba will be back as Nancy following her key part in the original. Dawson has said Gail’s past with Dwight that was hinted at in Sin City may be visited here.
