With six months to go until it hits theaters, the choice to remake the classic horror outing Evil Dead has certainly received a decent number of mixed reactions. Though original duo Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have easily been overlooking the development and making sure the first film is in no way tarnished, it’s the track record for many recent horror runs that have led die-hard fans to start lighting torches and forming angry mobs just a bit early. Luckily there’s still plenty of time to change some minds and it seems at New York Comic Con they did exactly that as not only did the first footage from the film debut but after the jump the first official picture straight from the film has premiered online.
EW released the first image on the heels of the teaser trailer debuting at NYCC, which is so far getting rave reviews. Though it doesn’t appear like it, the undead seen in the still below is actually that of actress Jane Levy who will be playing a key role as one of the five central stars of the film. In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
The trailer was screened at a panel this weekend, which featured Levy, director Fede Alvarez and producer/original star Campbell. Although specific details regarding exactly what was seen have yet to be revealed, many are saying that it should certainly open up fans who are skeptical to the redux. Various reports include critics saying they were floored and absolutely stunned with the footage shown, with the trailer said to have received a standing ovation from the fans in the audience.
No specific time stamp for the trailer has been revealed yet, but expect it to hit the internet in the coming week or so.
