With Lego: The Piece of Resistance currently in the works for a theatrical release in 2014, one of the biggest pieces of information to take away from the upcoming project is that for the first time in cinematic history Batman and Superman will be together on the big screen. Though we’ve see worlds collide on television before and in numerous home video releases, it’s this Lego take on the characters that will certainly build upon the already successful union of the two in this year’s Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
But it turns out that DC and Lego may have found too much success in this year’s hit video game title thus far. As it turns out, we won’t have to wait too much longer for the big screen union of these Lego heroes as they will be joining up in the first of three titles that DC will be releasing as a part of their feature film collection of next year.
Announced at a panel for next Spring’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – Part 2, a trailer for the next film of the DC line-up Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes United. Promised to be a kid-friendly outing that is also said to be the funniest DC animated film yet, the story finds The Joker and Lex Luthor teaming up to take down Gotham City. It’s up to Batman, Robin and Superman to team up and take them down while other heroes/villains such as Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, The Penguin, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Riddler, Cyborg, Green Lantern and more all make appearances.
While no release dates were revealed, the next in line following the blocky adventure will be Superman Unbound. To be released in Summer 2013, the film will be based off of Geoff Johns’ Superman: Brainiac arc which deals with the bottled city of Kandor along with Superman fighting “the true Brainiac”. From there, Superman must deal with the fact that now 100,000 Kryptonians are living on Earth thanks to the rescue of Kandor.
Finally, Justice League: Flashpoint will be hitting store shelves and digital download in Fall 2013. Based off of the storyarc of the same name, the plot follows Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash as he wakes up in an alternative timeline with Kid Flash and Booster Gold where all three heroes find significant changes from their original universe: Thomas Wayne is Batman, Aquaman’s Atlanteans and Wonder Woman’s Amazons are at war, Superman has been detained by the government, the Justice League does not exist and Captain Cold is actually Central City’s hero.
No voice casts have yet been revealed for any film just yet, but don’t be too surprised if you see Tim Daly or Kevin Conroy step back in.
