First Look at Hook as Actor Colin O’Donoghue Upgraded to Series Regular for ‘Once Upon a Time’

Though he has yet to debut as the buzzed-about villain, Colin O’Donghue has been making splashes on Once Upon a Timealready as the villain Captain Hook. Since his reveal at Comic-Con earlier this year, Hook has easily been one of the most anticipated new roles to come out of the ABC fairy tale hit’s second season. Though we still have a few weeks until we actually get to see him in action, O’Donoghue was already signed up to bring the antagonism in a recurring role. Now, it seems he will have a major part to play as the second year comes to a close as the actor has now joined a regular cast of all veterans.

EW reports that for the “back nine episodes”, Colin O’Donoghue will be a series regular on Once Upon a Timeamong fellow actors Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Lana Parrilla, Jared Gilmore, Meghan Ory, Robert Carlyle and Emilie de Ravin. This decision comes even before his first episode has aired, with no knowledge of just how exactly the die-hard fanbase will react to the character.

We received our first glimpse at Hook in Sunday’s “season ahead” preview, though it lacked the accessory that makes him so famous. See it for yourself here:

Two other series regulars, Ory and De Ravin, followed a similar fate with the series’ first season; they were recurring actresses who were eventually bumped up during the summer hiatus. Though some suggest Ory’s was due to her already massive status on the show itself, as she appeared in nearly every episode by season’s end, other reports suggest the pay bump was to keep her from attaching herself to any other new series that may try to snatch her up. De Ravin was easily bumped up due to the fact that her character of Belle plays an extremely vital part in the development of Rumplestiltskin, which we were able to see in the season premiere.

Let’s just hope the next series regular slot goes to fan-favorite Sebastian Stan.

Once Upon a Time airs every Sunday night at 8PM on ABC. O’Donoghue will first appear as Hook in the October 21st episode “The Crocodile”.
