Concept Art for the ‘Jurassic Park 4′ That Thankfully Never Was

For over a decade now, Jurassic Park 4 has been in development hell trying to reach the big screen with no such luck since. As a script has now entered development once more with Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver at the helm, hopefully they can revive the dormant franchise before it ultimately goes extinct. However back in 2005, John Sayles (Lone Star) penned the script for the potential film that took a widely different approach to what we had seen thus far from the franchise.

After concept art was created for the project, the sequel was then dropped. Today we finally find out why as the concept art has surfaced…featuring mutated dinosaurs that will have hardcore fans of the series cringe.

Released online thanks to Reddit, the following snapshots feature Carlos Huante’s work on what would have been the creatures of Jurassic Park 4. The plot featured mutants with blended human and dinosaur DNA which take incredibly odd shapes, but perhaps the most surreal is the triceratops who can stand with fully opposable thumbs. At one point, the dinosaurs were supposed to even be able to hold and fire guns in the process.

I’ll be honest in saying that the concept art displayed below looks like a solid monster movie, but not a Jurassic Park film. While some of the designs resemble that of The Lizard from this year’s The Amazing Spider-Man, it’s just odd to go from the classic original film to this in the matter of what was then just over 10 years.
