As Assassin’s Creed III arrives in stores within the coming weeks, the setting for the fifth installment in the franchise is easily one filled with ambition that is only matched by anticipation from fans. To have the ability to play a Native American Assassin in the defining moments of American history with The Revolutionary War certainly carries a lot of weight while hopefully wrapping up a decent number of overarching plot developments the future storyline with Desmond has provided thus far.
But like nearly every game, Assassin’s Creed will obviously be dishing own downloadable content sometime in the near future. And like most recent blockbuster titles, Ubisoft has decided to announce a season pass you can purchase all the content at a discounted price. Except this time, the developer has announced easily what may be one of the most impressive storylines to date to come out of a downloadable add-on: an alternate history painting the first President of the United States George Washington as an antagonist drunk with power.
Unveiled yesterday, Ubisoft revealed that for $29.99 (or 2400 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360 gamers) you can gain a season pass for Assassin’s Creed III giving you access to “all five upcoming downloadable content packs which are slated for release within six months after launch”. Three of these content packs will be an all-new single-player campaign “in which players will experience an alternate history of the American Revolution dubbed ‘The Tyranny of King Washington’”.
The story is described, “As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the Revolution’s greatest hero, George Washington succumbs to the temptation of infinite power a new King is born”.
Of course on top of all this, you’ll also be receiving new maps and characters for multiplayer along with some single-player missions. But the Washington storyline is obviously the major reveal at hand here. Told in a trilogy, it’ll be incredibly interesting to see just how exactly in-depth Ubisoft is deciding to make the tale as undoubtedly newest assassin Connor will be at the middle of this tale.
Will it feel as if the Revolution was fought for nothing as it led to America only to be ruled under a new King? How tyrannical will Washington be? And perhaps most importantly: could there be a Second Revolutionary War to take the leader down?
No release date on the first pack in the Washington saga just yet, but more is expected to be revealed following the release of Assassin’s Creed III on October 30th. The season pass is available to pre-order online, or at your local Gamestop or Best Buy.
Last but not least, here is a bone-chilling teaser image featuring King Washington himself (click for a hi-res look):
