Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis to Play Jess’ Parents on ‘New Girl’, Carla Gugino To Recur

With just over a week until the hit comedy of last year returns,New Girl is ready to supply fans with an even larger list of guest stars that will expand upon the already massive number of faces who have shown up on the series. Justin Long, Dermot Mulroney, Thomas Lennon, Lizzy Caplan, Clark Duke, Ryan Kwanten, Katrina Bowden, Lake Bell and more have all made appearances thus far with another handful of characters to kick off the sophomore season.

But with Zooey Deschanel’s quirky lead being the centerpiece of the comedy, can we even begin to what her parents must be like? Now it seems like we just may be able to as her separated mother and father are coming to dinner with two big names playing her parents, while Schmidt will be supplied with a boss who may be thrilled the douche with a heart of gold is getting his penis cast removed.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner have officially signed on to play Jess’ parents in the upcoming Thanksgiving episode ofNew Girl‘s second season. While it’s unclear whether or not we’ll see if Jess gets her personality from either of them, our resident female of the apartment will be inviting the two to the holiday feast in the hopes she can reunite her divorced folks. This marks at least the second confirmed family members to show up at Thanksgiving, as it was previously revealed Rob Riggle will be playing Schmidt’s cousin…who is also named Schmidt.

Reiner’s last television appearance was on 30 Rock in 2010, while he is currently shooting a role in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Meanwhile, Curtis has been slowly making a comeback to television this year, as the actress played the ex-girlfriend of Mark Harmon’s Gibbs on CBS’ NCIS for five episodes last season. There is also the potential the two will reappear as Jess’ parents in a future episode as well, but as of right now they are only confirmed for one installment. [TV Line]

Meanwhile, it seems the series will also be seeking inspiration from a worldwide phenomenon that has truly emerged this year in literature. Carla Gugino will be continuing her string of television guest spots and will be appearing as Emma, Schmidt’s boss who is described as being “sweet-seeming” but actually “a high-powered sex freak”. Schmidt will be forced to sign a contract that binds him with this unique new character, with a relationship very much like that displayed in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Gugino will be appearing in three episodes as her first of the trio will film later this month for a premiere this November. The actress just finished a series regular run on the mini-seriesPolitical Animals on USA Network, which is said to possibly be under consideration for a second season renewal. [EW]
