Richard Linklater’s ‘Before Sunset’ Sequel ‘Before Midnight’ Surprisingly Wraps Production

For what seems like forever now, there have been rumors of the long in the works final installment in Richard Linklater’sBefore trilogy, Before Midnight, moving into production. Talk became increasingly odd as it was said that the film was secretly in production in Greece just a couple weeks ago, while actress Julie Delphy eventually revealed that the reports were untrue. But it turns out that Delphy happened to simply be throwing many off the trail as it has been announced today that Before Midnight has not only finished but also the first image has been unveiled as well.

Deadline reports that Before Midnight has officially wrapped production today after a very secretive shoot that included Ethan Hawke, Delphy and director Linklater. Also interestingly enough, the film will go on sale tomorrow at the Toronto International Film Festival as it seeks a distributor for sometime next year. It’s unclear whether or not any footage from the film will be showcased, though many strongly believe that it is simply too early.

The trio released an official statement today, saying “It’s great to be back together again, this time in beautiful Greece to revisit the lives of Celine and Jesse nine years after Jesse was about to miss his flight.”

To prove that the project is actually very much a reality, the first image from the film has been released showing Jess and Celine together again after their last encounter in 2004′sBefore Sunset. Click the image above for a larger look.

The Before trilogy has had quite the lengthy past before, with the original film Before Sunrise hitting theaters in 1995. The sequel Before Sunset followed nine years later in 2004 and picked up in real time, while the same timespan will have divded both Sunset and next year’s Midnight.

Since Before Sunset, Linklater has gone on to helm Bad News BearsFast Food Nation and most recently the dark comedyBernie with Jack Black. The director is also best known for his other very successful efforts in Dazed & Confused and School of Rock.
