Earlier this year, director Michael Bay made not only headlines for tackling the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot that has gained plenty of notoriety at this point but also shooting his first non-Transformers film in years with Pain & Gain. Taking another action approach for the first time since his sci-fi featureThe Island back in 2005, the feature blends some impressive faces with a high octane adventure that seems like it could certainly impress audiences for a box office win. Now, the studio is hoping to take advantage of the near-summer buzz by positioning the film right before Iron Man 3 is certain to make a splash.
Paramount has announced today that Pain & Gain will be released on April 26th 2013. This will be Bay’s first non-summer release since the original Bad Boys hit theaters, though in all fairness Bay misses the mark by only a week. The only film currently scheduled for the same date is the recently delayedThe Big Wedding, starring Amanda Seyfried, Diane Keaton, Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, Topher Grace, Katherine Heigl, Susan Sarandon and more.
The movie features Wahlberg and Johnson as bodybuilders who eventually get caught up in a kidnapping plan gone wrong following an extortion crime ring. Rob Corddry joins in as a friend of the duo while Ken Jeong joins in on the fun as well. Penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (the duo behind both Captain America installments), the film co-stars Ed Harris, Anthony Mackie, Rebel Wilson, Tony Shalhoub, and more.
