Marvel’s Kevin Feige Reveals New ‘Hulk’ Film Won’t Enter Development Until Phase Three of the MCU

Since the dynamite performance of Mark Ruffalo in The Avengers, audiences have been craving word on a new stand-alone Hulk film that expands the scene stealer to his own adventure. Though rumors have been tossed around, we haven’t received too much news on another installment while Marvel Studios has been hard at work setting plans for Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, word on exactly where a Hulk film will land has finally been revealed and it seems we’ll have to wait quite some time until Hulk can smash again.

Speaking with MTV, Marvel’s Kevin Feige reveals that a newHulk film is in the cards but not until after 2015. ”Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers’? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2,’ So there’s a lot of time to think about it.”

But what story exactly could a new stand-alone film tackle? Feige says the sky is the limits though expresses concern about certain paths. “I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe,” he said, adding, “‘Planet Hulk’ is a cool story. ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story. [However] I think there’s pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I’d say everything is on the table.”

What’s most interesting is that while in The Avengers the heroes learned to accept The Hulk as part of the team, World War Hulk and Planet Hulk both deal with circumstances in which our band of Marvel superheroes find the angry green giant too dangerous. With The Avengers 2 coming up, could we see a fight between The Hulk and other memebers of the MCU surface as Banner loses control of his gamma monster?

Regardless of what the future has in store, let’s hope Mark Ruffalo is along for the ride.

The Avengers 2 is currently set to be released on May 1st, 2015.
