Almost two months since the release of the teaser trailer, there has been very slim marketing regarding Paranormal Activity 4. Though a name many people recognize to draw crowds in record numbers, there’s less than a month to go until the next sequel hits theaters and the lack of any promotion thus far is a bit alarming as we close out September. But it seems like Paramount is ready to power up and push the horror series until the end of the month once more as today the full trailer has gone online for the fourth feature in the franchise. And though it has some incredible uses of technology, could this be the entry that causes fans to flee?
I’ve always stated how much of a sucker I am for theParanormal Activity films, as I am certainly a fan of the franchise as a whole. That being said, I do have some pretty big hesitations regarding the fourth installment. While I do think the Kinect tracking dots idea is actually incredibly awesome, this trailer seems more Problem Child if anything and really doesn’t hint at impacting the mythology in a major way just as the last two films have.
Once the trailer starts moving, there is some weight that feels like the film could fit in great with the other pieces of the series thus far, but it takes awhile to get there and that is absolutely concerning. And it seems I have the right to draw concern as the unfinished print of Paranormal Activity 4 premiered at Fantastic Fest this week. Mixed reviews have surrounding the film, with some appreciating the installment with “smart set pieces” while the more harsh criticisms say that the film “doesn’t work”, “sadly a repeat of Part 2″ and even “jumps the shark”.
It seems we’ll have to just wait and see if the finished version succeeds or flops as Paranormal Activity 4 hits theaters on October 19th.
What did you think of the trailer?
