It’s been a long road, folks. After five years of possible movie talk, Arrested Development has been a cult icon that has always found many additional fans as it stayed stuck somewhere in television purgatory. Many thought it would never happen: a series coming back after so long off the air? That miracle has only occurred a few times before. Some even kept that strong sense of thinking until recently when Jason Bateman tweeted pictures of the set. With Netflix playing a major role in the series’ revival, today finally starts the fulfillment of a promise made nearly 10 months ago. Today, the new episodes ofArrested Development start filming.
Deadline reports that principal photography is set to kick off today for the fourth season of Arrested Development, with the entire original cast – Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, and narrator Ron Howard – all returning. The actors are said to be in final negotiations, but all are expected to return.
The new episodes are following the storyline that each installment “follows one member of the Bluth clan, although some episodes may feature multiple characters”. Creator Mitch Hurwitz had said this was the original plan, though earlier this year stated that narrative had changed a bit. Exactly what will happen in the new episodes are almost as unpredictable as the series’ post-FOX life.
10 episodes are set to be filmed and each will premiere on the same day on Netflix at an undisclosed time in 2013. It’s said they’re to hopefully build up to a possible film, but let’s just take this new lease on life for the comedy property one step at a time shall we?
So, are you excited that the new season begins filming today? Or do you still have a “wait-and-see” mentality?
