M. Night Shyamalan May Finally Jump to TV with SyFy Pilot ‘Proof’

Shyamalan

To say director/writer M. Night Shyamalan’s last few films have been met with poor reception by both critics and audiences is an understatement. On one hand, you had The Happening that involved plants attacking humans so to speak, while The Last Airbender was seen as an absolute trainwreck that pissed off fans of the hit cartoon franchise as well. While his career may hopefully land back on path with next year’s After Earth starring Will and Jaden Smith, it seems Shyamalan finally wants to take his resume to bold new places. Now, there’s the chance that he could be responsible for an all-new original drama on the small screen.

THR reports that M. Night will pen an original project calledProof for SyFy and has been given a pilot-order by the network to begin shooting for the possibility to become an all-new series. The creative mind will work with Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘s Marti Noxon to bring the concept to life, co-writing and serving both as executive producers. Set to shoot in Canada, Shymalan may end up directing the pilot as well though there’s no word just how he’ll serve the series if it’s indeed picked up.

The story of the series finds ”the son of a billionaire tech genius who, following an accident that claims his parents’ lives, offers a large reward for anyone who can find proof of life after death”. It certainly sounds like the possibility to have a supernatural stipulation in the background, or even have a recurring element of various ways to contact the other side. How exactly the series could continue after an extended period of time is likely to be a major selling point, but it could ultimately work out in Shymalan’s favor.

Let’s all start speculating just what the twist ending to the pilot episode will be this time.
