With roughly one month until fairy tale drama Once Upon a Timeis back for its second season, a number of new faces are ready to join the current cast of characters. As Sleeping Beauty, Mulan and more have all decided to make their way to Storybrooke in the next year, there’s still no word on one character that the writers have been attempting to bring to life: The Little Mermaid.
Though actresses have been tossed around already, fans have had their own list of hopeful contenders. Now, one actress who is returning to television in a regular role this fall has revealed that show would love to pop up on Once Upon a Time…with the famous underwater princess being an option.
Actress JoAnna Garcia could in fact be the one making a break for the hit ABC series. When asked by E! Online whether or not she could be in the running for Ariel, Garcia responded “That show is exceptional. Jennifer Morrison is one of my dearest friends,” Garcia tells us. “I would love to do the show. I just think the show is incredibly crafted and well-acted. The masterminds behind it are so extraordinary. I would love to do it. It’s on my wishlist!”
Garcia joins fellow rumored frontrunner Rebecca Mader for the role, though there has been no word if the hit series will be looking for their mermaid just yet. Co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz had said they would love to tell the famous Disney tale, but simply haven’t found the right fit for it just yet. So far, the story has been a strong fan-requested inclusion but it’s unclear as to when we’ll see it so far.
Meanwhile Garcia has joined the new NBC comedy Animal Practice as the series’ female lead, and the network could in fact be the deciding factor as to whether or not she may show up as Ariel if she’s even considered. NBC has been known to prevent guest spots before as they previously forbid then-contracted actors Sarah Lancaster and Masi Oka from reappearing as their past characters on ABC’s Scrubs Season 8 finale. Whether or not they would do the same here is undetermined.
Once Upon a Time returns Sunday September 30th at 8PM.
