The upcoming biblical adaptation Noah certainly has a lot of firsts. This is the first film for director Darren Aronofsky since his major crowd pleaser and psychological drama Black Swan. This is the first project since Best Picture winner A Beautiful Mindwhere Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly will be playing husband and wife. And now today we have an all-new first as Russell Crowe’s version of the man who built the Ark to prepare for the coming flood is revealed in the first still from the upcoming feature.
Noah is officially described as “a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood”. The story will also involve Noah’s battle with alcohol while also having a true antagonist as Ray Winstone leads a group of men who believe that Noah’s persistence to place everyone on one boat after talking to God is pure madness.
The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, while later revised by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, Hugo). Co-starring Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, Kevin Durand, Barry Sloane and more, Noah hits theaters on March 28th, 2014.
