The first promotional material for the upcoming seventh season of Dexter has focused primarily on where the last one has left off: Deb walking in on Dexter’s latest killing. The first two minutes of the season have shown what we can expect from the situation thus far as the titular main character tries to convince his adoptive sister that this was simply a one-time lapse of sanity. As to what else we can expect? Well, that’s been kept in hiding until now. Showtime has finally debuted the full trailer for Season 7 and if anything both the stakes and the suspense has never been higher.
After a sixth season that some saw as the worst season of Dexter thus far, this trailer seems to really to be directly aimed at those same pessimists. And honestly? As someone who hasn’t quite been addicted to the series since the fourth season, the trailer has me very excited for what’s to come. Dexter’s secret has always been one of the main plot devices that has peeked out of hiding a few times before, but never to this magnitude.
Deb uncovering the past with the words Bay Harbor Butcher and Ice Cream Truck Killer tossed around really shows that the sins of the past may come back to hunt Mr. Morgan, possibly leading him to hack away at a few other regular characters. We see her life may not be the only one in danger, but also Masuka’s as well (which we’d take to simply be a dream sequence for now). All that’s really sure is that with an endgame now being aimed for, it seems the serial killer drama has a renewed focus.
Dexter returns Sunday September 30th only on Showtime.
