For a majority of the summer, fans have been waiting impatiently to figure out just when BBC and BBC America will reveal the return of Doctor Who after plenty of rumors have placed it for a return sometime at the end of this month. Still, the broadcaster remained strong in saying that a date still had not yet been revealed and we’d have to wait just a little longer to see our Tardis Trio venture off on more time traveling journeys before the Ponds’ farewell. Now, not only do we finally know when that beautiful blue box will be back but BBC has also taken it upon themselves to release a couple new images straight from the premiere.
BBC has announced today that the Series 7 opener “Asylum of the Daleks” will air on Saturday September 1st on BBC One in the U.K. It’s assumed that BBC America will air the episode on the same day at the usual broadcast time of 9PM. This official date comes one week after the rumored premiere that previously had some weight due to the early screening last night at BFI Southbank and at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival from August 23rd-25th.
With the news also comes the first official description of the episode, “Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission – to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter…the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Pond’s marriage.”
And as of that wasn’t enough, BBC also released an all-new promotional image and poster art for the episode as well (click for a much larger look):
