With plenty of casting news hitting Storybrooke in the past month, there are plenty of fresh faces to look forward to in the coming year. The fairy tale characters have never been lacking in last season’s hit series, but its just who will be returning to the new slate of episodes that have fans anticipating what’s to come. Now after a week that has revealed two returning actresses reprising their roles from the first season, one actor has unveiled that despite his soon-to-be-busy schedule one of the most beloved additions to Once Upon a Time so far will be coming back.
*MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW – READ ON AT YOUR OWN CAUTION*
Sebastian Stan has revealed in an interview with Logo’sAfterElton that he’s signed up to appear once again in the second season as Jefferson, or as he’s better known The Mad Hatter. When we last left the character he was one of the only few characters in the real world to be aware of his past, and was forced to watch his daughter Grace grow up not knowing her true father while she was raised by another family.
As to exactly how long Stan will be back is currently unknown but when asked just where Jefferson’s head will be following the major revelation that everyone in Storybrooke has retained their fairy tale knowledge, Stan said “I think he’ll be just as much affected by everything, but the desire for him has not changed. He still wants that reunion with the daughter.”
“Also, you have to remember, he’s known all along before everybody else that this was going to happen, so this is not a big surprise to him. From where he comes from, it’s like ‘Oh, good. Now everybody is going to see what I’ve been talking about over and over again, but no one was listening to me.’ He’s seen all this coming.”
With word that Stan is dating lead actress Jennifer Morrison it seems convincing him to return may have been easier than originally thought, though it seems the desire to possibly turn Jefferson into a series regular has come up unsuccessful. Still,Once Upon a Time is known for having a wide cast of recurring talent and it seems that after two surprise appearances at the end of Season 1, Stan is ready to recur even more.
The actor is also currently heating up the small screen as a major role in the new USA Network mini-series Political Animals, while he’s prepping to fulfill the second film in a six film contract he has with Marvel in Captain America: The Winter Soldier which is set to begin shooting early next year.
Stan joins fellow surprise return stars Bailee Madison and Barbara Hershey, who have been both confirmed their return on the Once Upon a Time set during the filming of Season 2. Madison indirectly confirmed her return as Young Snow White on Twitter, while lead actress Ginnifer Goodwin took to the social network as well to confirm Hershey was shooting scenes. As for exactly when all three will show up this fall is unknown.
Once Upon a Time returns Sunday September 30th at 8PM on ABC.
