For awhile now, Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright has been working on the final installment in the Blood & Ice Cream trilogy The World’s End, which reunites the duo with Nick Frost again after cult hits Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. With word that the film will officially begin to film later this fall, there has still been no official word with what exactly is happening. Now with Comic-Con in the public eye, Universal has decided to not only announce the film but also give the feature its first one-sheet.
Universal Pictures officially greenlit The World’s End today, and released it’s first official poster (which you can see below). Director Wright confirmed that the comedy will be his next project, despite test work on a Marvel Ant-Man film. Wright and Pegg co-wrote the film, which will film later this year for a release previously mentioned for Early 2013.
The story of the film finds five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying a drinking marathon again 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
Pegg and Frost are the only confirmed members of the cast right now, but it’s expected that familiar faces of the past Wright films may fill out the slots for the other three friends.
