If there’s one pilot that critics have been raving about in the past month, it’s been The CW’s Arrow. Early buzz has pointed many towards absolutely falling in love with the premiere episode, though we still have three long months until the series actually debuts. Taking the character of Green Arrow and thrusting him into his only gritty spotlight, the biggest test will be when the pilot screens at San Diego Comic-Con this Wednesday and how fans will react to the episode along with the panel. Now, it seems The CW has even more plans for their upcoming superhero series as they’re teaming up with DC Comics in a new take on how the titular hero is usually seen.
TV Guide has revealed today that at the convention, they will be handing out a 10-page mini-comic that ties into the events of Arrow. It’s said to take place between the pilot and the second episode, and will focus on Oliver Queen’s playboy days along with a heavy emphasis on Detective Hilton (played by Roger Cross). And if that’s not enough, co-writer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that villain Deathstroke is involved somehow.
“It’s almost like a little mini episode after the pilot but before the next episode,” Kreisberg, who co-wrote the story with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Geoff Johns, tells TV Guide. “To us those 10 pages are canon and [for] anyone who grabs a copy: Hold onto it and as the series progresses, you’ll appreciate it more and more.” Mike Grell pencilled the cover while the interiors have been handled by Omar Francia.
While they’re likely to be included in The CW’s huge goodie bags available at their booth (#4129), make sure you head over there to secure your copy as well as the Arrow screening and panel this Friday at 3PM PST in Ballroom 20.
