For months now, fans of Revenge have been wondering just one thing: who will be joining the hit drama-thriller as the matriarch of Emily Thorne? While James Tupper has always been Emily’s flashback father on the series for the entire first season, the series was quick to make sure we didn’t travel too far back in time as some pieces of Emily’s history remained hidden in the shadows. Now, it seems Emily will have a matriarch after all once the new season kicks off as one comedy star has just landed the part.
*WARNING: Some spoilers from Season 1 follow*
TVLine reports that Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Single White Female) has been cast as the currently nameless Mrs. Clarke. The actress has been pulling television duty this season so far on the final year of Weeds, playing the sister of lead character Nancy and the lover of Andy. This will be Leigh’s first bout with network television in her career, and is expected to be a very important recurring role throughout Revenge‘s second season.
The close of the first season found Emily discovering that her previously presumed dead mother is actually alive and well hidden somewhere she’s unaware of. What the beginning of this next season will aim to do is find our main character hunting down her mother after all this time. Where the deep mystery lies is just what exactly has kept Mrs. Thorne out of her daughter’s life for all these years and just why she would fake her own death.
Leigh is the second addition to the Revenge cast so far in this new season as last week British actor Barry Sloane joined the drama’s second year as Ethan who has been described as a mystery man who is tied to Emily’s past. Among other new characters we’ll also be seeing Conrad Grayson’s other family before he remarried with Victoria and began the demon clan next door, with a hint that his oldest son just may be harboring a grudge against his dear old dad.
Revenge is set to premiere at a new night and time Sundays at 9PM this September on ABC.
