With the news that Marvel’s 2014 Mystery Movie may very well be Guardians of the Galaxy, all that’s really confirmed for sure is that the film will be unveiled at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con. What exactly Marvel has in store has certainly been kept under lock and key for now, and fans are eager as ever to hear what the company has in store for Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now today, it seems after Captain America 2 fans will be waiting longer than expected for their next dose of superhero fun as the feature shrouded in mystery will be pushed to later in the summer.
THR reports that Marvel had moved their second 2014 film from May 16th to August 1st. Details as to why are currently unknown, but perhaps Marvel could be trying to fit in one more film inbetween the two for an extra surprise.
Ant-Man and Black Panther have both strongly been rumored in the past month, and while the reveal of Guardians of the Galaxymay have stalled some talk for now (especially with rumors The Avengers 2 will be coming in 2015) this release change could allow one film to ease into the summer slate. One report last week had placed Edgar Wright just wrapping up a test reel forAnt-Man, meaning the film may finally hit a production process soon enough.
Captain America 2 will be bowing outside of the usual summer window with an April 4th, 2014 release, with plenty of Marvel fun outside of the Cinematic Universe to be had. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2nd, with X-Men: First Class 2 to premiere on July 18th. Other competition includes the anticipated sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apeson May 23rd, with Transformers 4 to follow shortly afterwards in June.
Stay tuned for the latest news to come out of SDCC next week as we cover the entire event with numerous updates.
