At the end of the How I Met Your Mother Season 7 premiere, many long time fans leapt off their couches in excitement in the shocking return of Ted’s first major girlfriend of the series Victoria (Ashley Williams). Though she appeared in the episode afterwards, the character wasn’t heard from again until the season finale which left our main character in a bit of a romantic cliffhanger. While it’s been confirmed that Victoria will at least return in the season premiere, it seems we can expect more of the fan-favorite in the next year.
TV Line reports that Williams has signed a deal with HIMYM to appear in a multi-episode arc. As to how long she’ll be starring is currently unclear, but she’s expected to at least show up for the early episodes of Season 8.
The finale left us with Victoria and Ted literally driving off into the sunset as despite Ted’s intentions to drive back his ex-lover to her wedding day so she could complete the vows, Ted decided to drive past the church after he realized just how many reciprocated feelings he had left for Vic after six long years.
The September 24th season premiere causes Ted to turn the car around when Victoria realizes she never left a farewell letter to her still-could-be-husband and the duo head for the church. While co-creator Craig Thomas has said we’ll see just what’s in store following the intense situation, we will then find ourselves time jumping from the May wedding day to the September present with little knowledge as to whether or not Victoria may decide to be back with Ted or have a ring on her finger.
Williams isn’t the only returning star to join the hit comedy’s eight season. Michael Trucco, who guest starred in one episode back in Season 6, will resurface as Robin’s long lost crush who’s paths can never really seem to connect. Except this time, Trucco will be looking to romance Robin for the long haul…well, until that fateful wedding day of Barney’s of course.
On top of all of this, CBS and HIMYM are currently in talks to see whether or not the hit comedy will return for a Season 9. So far, there has been no official pick up from the network.
