Chris Hemsworth & Steven Spielberg May Team Up for ‘Robopocalypse’

Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth has been involved in some of the biggest films of the last few years. While Thor was his breakout role, the actor was also included in the well received Star Trek reboot from J.J. Abrams, the genre-changing horror hit The Cabin in the Woods, and now one of the largest films of all timeThe Avengers. With a resume like that, Hemsworth has solidified himself as one of the most desired actors in Hollywood for various projects and has evolved into quite the mega-star. Now, it seems he’s even caught the eye of a Hollywood icon as a legendary director reportedly now wants Hemsworth for his next film.

Deadline reports that after meetings with the actor, Steven Spielberg would like to have Chris Hemsworth as the lead actor for his next sci-fi feature Robopocalypse. There has yet to be an offer for the actor and the casting also has yet to be confirmed by the studios themselves, but seeing how we’re talking about Mr. Spielberg here it only seems like a matter of time before everything falls into place.

The high-profile project with an enormous budget has been in the works for some time now, and is finally ready to start getting underway before Spring 2013. Robopocalypse is adapted from the novel of the same name, and revolves around an apocalyptic robot uprising that the human race must endure in order to survive. There’s no word yet as of who Hemsworth would be playing within the film, but that information is expected to be announced in due time.

If successful, Hemsworth would also reunite with The Cabin in the Woods director/co-write Drew Goddard, who also penned the script for the upcoming sci-fi epic. Robopocalypse is set to be so big that both Dreamworks and 20th Century Fox will be co-financing the film with a lengthy pre-production set to commence soon enough once Spielberg wraps work on his Oscar-buzzed biopic Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Harris, and numerous others.

Robopocalypse is scheduled for release on April 25th 2014.
