Currently, Telltale Games’ episodic adventure title The Walking Dead has been blowing up digital charts everywhere in a cheap quick play that fans have seemed to love. However, while it’s the first console title for the series, it’s based in the world that Robert Kirkman has created for both the comic and the television series. But, is there a chance we could see an expansion of the TV show through this format? Today, that question was answered with a enthusiastic “yes!” as Activision has unveiled the first teaser for their own videogame that serves as a prequel to The Walking Dead.
Via IGN:
The game will be a first person shooter that will follow fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon and his brother Merle before they met up with the other survivors. Activision says that ”no place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world.” It’s with that description that it’s hinted that we’ll likely experience the beginnings of the outbreak in a similar fashion that Telltale’s version has explored as well.
The title will also have survival elements as you’ll have to find supplies, food, and ammo in order to stay alive, while Daryl will meet a cast of characters that the player can decide either to band together with or ditch in the dust. It’s that choice that ”represents just some of the major decisions that will constantly be made while fighting to survive.”
Developed by AMC Studios, it’s unclear whether or not Norman Reedus will be voicing the character. But given the network’s strong involvement there seems to be a great possibility along with other actors from the TV series reprising their roles as well.
The Walking Dead: The Video Game will hit Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime in 2013.
