Scottish Actress Laura Fraser Joins Season 5 of ‘Breaking Bad’ in Major Role

We’re just weeks away from the season premiere of Breaking Bad, and the beginning of the end is ready to sweep fans off of their feet. While the plot and teasers for the new episodes have remained very secretive thus far, we’ve seen small tidbits of information here and there. But, how exactly will Walter deal with his newfound power? Well, if a new character’s details are any indication, he may have his hands full with the mess he has left to clean up.

EW reports that Laura Fraser will be introduced in the second episode of the upcoming season, and will be playing quite the important part. She’ll be the face of Lydia, ”a former associate of Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) who’s integral to the proceedings of season 5, as well as someone who is nervous about her place in the world.” Next to Mike, Lydia is the second associate of Gus’ who just may be looking for revenge against the man responsible for his demise.

Fraser is a Scottish actress who has had parts in Vanilla SkyA Knight’s Tale, and even The Man in the Iron Mask. She is officially the second new cast member to join the fifth season, as Friday Night Lights star Jesse Plemons is also coming aboard as well. Plemons is set to play the role of Todd, who is seen as a nice young man who stumbles upon Walt, Jesse, and company. Then again, first impressions are always decieving in the world of Breaking Bad.

The fifth season will comprise of only eight episodes as a part of a 16 episode final series order from AMC. The first batch wrapped up earlier this year, and creator Vince Gilligan will head back into the writers’ room with crew to script the final eight episodes which will start production later this year. From there, the final season will air sometime next year at a date that has yet to be determined by the network. Bryan Cranston has recently said that a sequel film to the series could certainly happen, but it was far from a guarantee. Given the likeliness of TV series gaining movies after their endings, it remains a highly unlikely possibility at best.

Breaking Bad premieres Sunday July 15th at 10PM on AMC.

Can’t wait? Here’s the first full trailer for the upcoming season:
