Samuel L. Jackson Latest To Join Cast of MGM’s ‘Robocop’ Remake

Jackson

So far, Robocop has been shaping up to have quite the impressive line up in its cast. MGM’s remake has already gained an up-and-coming leading man, while the second member of the cast has certainly captured audiences before in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. With production set to start in the coming months, casting has certainly shifted into high gear. Now, one more cast member to Robocop will have fans of both Quentin Tarantino and even the Marvel universe quite happy.

THR reports that Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast ofRobocop alongside Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman. Jackson’s character is said to be that of Pat Novak, ”a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world”. It’s unclear whether or not Jackson will be the villain of the film, as the “powerful force” description certainly sounds mysterious.

The story of Robocop, from writer Josh Zetumer, follows officer Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) who upon the brink of his death is brought back to life to become a crime fighting cyborg. Oldman will play the character of Norton, the conflicted scientist who creates the cyborg who wants Murphy to reconnect with his humanity but at the same time has to meet the needs of the corporation for which he is employed.

Jackson is currently filming the highly anticipated Quentin Tarantino revenge western drama Django Unchained, which he is following up after a leading role in the highly successful superhero film The Avengers. Jackson is anticipated to return to his role of Nick Fury in either Thor 2 or Captain America 2, as well as the sequel to the billion dollar team-up.

Directed by Jose Padilha, Robocop is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9th, 2013, with principal photography hoping to start in Toronto this September.
