In the past year, both Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network have caught a bit of nostalgia as not only has Nick launched The 90s Are All That, but its rival followed up with the revivals of both Cartoon Planet and Toonami. MTV, however, took a major step forward as they brought Beavis & Butthead back to life with all-new episodes. While it’s unclear whether or not the show will return has yet to be determined, MTV wants to continue to bring back what audiences have loved in their programming past. Now, the basic cable channel will be temporarily bringing back three hit series for quick rerun showings.
Starting June 25th, Laguna Beach, The Hills, and Daria will all be coming back for a brief amount of time on MTV. Airing 9AM-Noon everyday, June 25th through the 29th will belong toLaguna, July 2nd-27th will belong to The Hills, while July 30th-August 3rd will leave room for Daria. Called “Retro Mania”, both reality series will air nearly every episode from their respective runs, while Daria will have only selected episodes in its week long airing.
Along with the reality series MTV, also announced that “Stephen Colletti, Lo Bosworth, Audrina Patridge and Stephanie Pratt will all be on hand to give some insight into their former lives and all that juicy drama that accompanied them”. With six episodes a day as both reality series consisted of half-hour episodes, meaning that with 30 episodes available to be shown Laguna Beach will be shown in its entirety next week, while The Hills will do the same in July.
Daria has been chosen for select airings due to the series’ past problems with music license agreements and plenty of tracks not being carried over to DVD. The series ran for five years, and was seen as one of MTV’s best series ever created after it was a spin-off of Beavis & Butthead. The animated outing still has a legacy & fanbase, and who knows…maybe a rerun will spark a new generation of fans who will rush out to be the entire series.
