Marvel Comics Release Two Images For ‘This is War’; Will Tie-In To ‘Avengers vs. X-Men’?

With The Avengers and X-Men currently duking it out in a major Marvel Comics event, the first act of the series has concluded with a major reveal concerning the X-Men…certainly changing the tide of battle for the time being. Still, Avengers vs. X-Menhas affected plenty of characters in the Marvel universe, with a conclusion finally to reach its climax in September. But, how will the status quo of the comics change? Well, Marvel has released two very mysterious teaser images today indicating that come October the war may not even be over just yet.

*SPOILERS FOR AvX. READ ON AT YOUR OWN CAUTION.*

Given the title “This is War!”, the two photos depict a damaged Mjolnir surrounded by what seems to be Thor’s lightning and the arm of Wolverine engulfed in flames. While the Thor-centered image certainly seems like it could only affect the Asgardian, it’s the inclusion of the Wolverine image that certainly speaks volumes. With flames surrounding him, could it be the Phoenix force that is attacking him? Perhaps Hope is lashing out at her friend in combat? Could Emma or Scott be leading a revenge tactic against him? Regardless, it seems like there is certainly a Phoenix tie-in.

More is expected to be revealed in just a couple weeks at Comic-Con, where Marvel is likely to make an official announcement.
