With the most recent news that Andy Lau would not be in Iron Man 3 after all due to family commitments, the report kicked off what seemed to be a large round of news regarding the sequel after a lull during filming. While there’s plenty about the film that is still a mystery, it’s what’s been revealed so far that has certainly been notable. Now, there’s not only news about William Sadler’s mysterious character, but also a big event that will be happening to Tony Stark’s malibu home, and even just what we may be able to expect from the post-credits sequence.
According to The Playlist‘s latest podcast (via CBM), Sadler will be playing simply a role of a General who interacts with Don Cheadle’s Col. James Rhodes in the sequel. No word yet if he’ll be pulling War Machine’s strings, but with a newly decked out patriotic armor of the Iron Man counterpart, it’ll be interesting to see just how big Sadler’s role may be. It sounds like somewhat of a minor one compared to the bigger names within the film, but it could certainly serve a decent supporting purpose.

Meanwhile, the Marvel scoop machine that is Latino Reviewhave uncovered a large event that will occur with Tony’s home. After a set photo popped up on Reddit, showing off the set for the house on mechnanical stilts to elevate it off the floor. It’s here where LR were able to contact an anonymous source who says, “After the leaked set construction photo that appeared on the “Reddit” website comes word that the set is actually built on a very sophisticated gimbals system. This is a set up for total destruction. How do you fight a super hero? Hit him in the most sacred place….his home… villains of Iron Man 3 hit Tony Stark and hit him hard enough for his mansion to fall into the Pacific ocean.”
While it sounds like a fun scene to watch, you have to wonder: what does this mean for Stark and crew? Will they relocate to Stark Tower in New York City? And just who will be the one (or multiple villains) to attack the house?
Finally, the biggest news comes from a post-credits scene. We’ve know for some time that Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man has been poising itslef into a better position to possibly move into production within the next year. While Marvel has yet to confirm, it seems Playlist also revealed that not only may we see Hank Pym after Iron Man 3, but Colbie Smulders back as Maria Hill as well:
“S.H.I.E.L.D. still has a presence in the film, despite producers saying the story is completely standalone. In regards to how much of a presence they’ll have, Marvel is apparently aiming for a similar relationship Agent Phil Coulson had with Iron Man in the first film. Maria Hill will be the connective tissue this time around.
Chinese actor Andy Lau’s (who recently dropped out) role is apparently a “very different version of Radioactive Man in the comics.” And while he’s expected to pop up in future MCU films, he may appear in the post-credits scene. And that will involve him coming face-to-face with a version of Ant-Man.
Edgar Wright will possibly be shooting Iron Man 3′s post-credits scene essentially introducing Ant-Man. This may back of Wright stating he was hoping to shoot some of the movie this year.”
None of these details have yet to be confirmed, but given how fast the Marvel movie rumor mill cranks news out, it’ll likely be tackled soon. Marvel Studios has said they’re set to announce projects at San Diego Comic-Con, which begins in just two short weeks, so there’s a great chance we could officially have an Ant-Man, Black Panther, or unknown reveal coming very soon.
Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
