Seen as one of HBO’s hardest hitting dramas, Boardwalk Empirewill return for a third season of all-new episodes later this fall. The only problem remains to be that the pay cable network has always been notorious for releasing seasons on Blu-Ray and DVD incredibly late. In fact, the first season of Boardwalk Empire didn’t hit store shelves until the second had finished airing this past December. Now, it seems HBO wants to make sure viewers are all caught up for the upcoming episodes as the network has revealed they’ll be releasing the second season incredibly soon.
TVSOD reports that Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Second Season will arrive on Blu-Ray and DVD on August 28th. Given that the series usually sticks to the third of fourth Sunday of September for season premieres, this gives viewers that are behind an entire month to catch up before the new hours start to roll out.
While the DVD will come with special features for a suggested retail price of $60, the Blu-Ray version gives you much more bang for your buck. In a recent push to buy their series sets, HBO has revealed the Blu-Ray version will come not only with some exclusive extras but in an “HBO Select” combo pack that also gives you the entire season on DVD and Ultraviolet Digital Copy as well.
Keeping with the “HBO Select” theme, the first season will also be re-released on the same date in the same format with the Blu-Ray gaining DVD and Digital Copies. Both Blu-Ray versions will hit for an SRP of $80.
