If there’s one film that has been buzzed about for the past six months since its debut at Sundance, it’s been The Sessions. With multiple title changes since its unveiling, the comedy starring John Hawkes, Helen Hunt, Moon Bloodgood, and more have had critics raving straight out of the festival, with many already calling it as an early 2013 Oscars pick. While we’ve had a synopsis and photos from the film so far, we still haven’t received any footage to judge the film on. However, Fox Searchlight Pictures has decided to release the first trailer for the film today, giving us a first look at the film, and what could be an Academy Award for Best Actor in star John Hawkes’ performance.
Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California–based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, Six Sessions tells the story of a man confined to an iron lung who is determined – at age 38 – to lose his virginity. With the help of his therapists and the guidance of his priest, he sets out to make his dream a reality.
Directed and written by Ben Lewin, The Sessions stars John Hawkes as Mark O’Brien, Helen Hunt as Cheryl Cohen Greene and William H. Macy as Father Brendan, and will be released on October 26th.
