With Rock of Ages in theaters this weekend, many audience members may still be looking for a better musical fix after plenty of mixed reviews on the Broadway play brought to the big screen. That’s where Pitch Perfect comes in. Including a cast swelling with talent, the Glee-like comedy has plenty of individual names to draw an assorted audience, while it’s female-fronted laughs may be enough to make the show choir feature this year’s Bridesmaids. But can the a capella style of singing impress or is it simply a way to cover up many mistakes? That all remains to be seen, but for now you can see Anna Kendrick belt out a few tunes with attitude in the first trailer for this fall’s upcoming film.
Based on Mickey Rapkin’s novel, Anna Kendrick stars as Becca, a misfit college student who, unhappy with her life at school, joins an a cappella group. She leads the women in ditching their traditional numbers for mash-ups of songs old and new as they compete in the cut-throat world of college a cappella groups.
Co-starring Rebel Wilson, Alexis Knapp, Brittany Snow, Adam DeVine, Elizabeth Banks, John Michael Higgins, and more, Pitch Perfect hits theaters on October 5th.
