If there’s one summer series that certainly has done well with a very devoted fanbase, it’s crime drama and Canadian crime import Rookie Blue. This year, the cops at 15th Division kicked off their third season in the earliest premiere of the series history. With a solid average between 5 and 6 million viewers each episode, the summer fare has been doing well for both ABC and Global TV so far, despite taking a two week break for the NBA Finals. Though we’re not quite sure as to what shape the series will return to this Thursday, it seems both networks are still very much pleased with the series. Now, it’s been revealed that the antics, cases, and relationships of our favorite rookies will in fact continue for another year.
The official Twitter account for the series’ production has revealed that Rookie Blue has been renewed for a fourth season, planned to air next Summer. ABC and Global TV have yet to make a formal announcement, but it’s expected that both networks are currently prepping press releases for an official unveiling in the next week.
Starring Missy Peregrym, Ben Bass, Gregory Smith, Enuka Okuma, Charlotte Sullivan, Travis Milne, Lyriq Bent, Eric Johnson, Peter Mooney, and more, the third season is set to air its fourth episode this Thursday at 10 PM. Both networks have been known for early renewals of the series, but due to the two week hiatus it was unclear just where Rookie Blue‘s fate remained for the time being.
Rookie Blue originally premiered in 2010 as the most successful scripted summer series for ABC in six years. Since then, it has remained one of the most popular summer shows of any network, and has retained not only a steady demographic but consistent ratings as well. One bout of competition later this year sure to test the ratings will be the 2012 Olympics on NBC, but with a fourth season already in the bag there’s certainly plenty of fears relieved from fans’ minds.
What do you think? Happy Rookie Blue will be back for another year?
