Trailer and Poster for ‘The Apparition’

In terms of horror this summer, it seems like Prometheus is willing to jolt up a few scares enough to last us for a few months, before the impressive looking The Possession comes at the very end of August. But still, the genre leaves most of its films until Halloween rolls around, while some end up getting dumped to see if audiences may be looking for a change of pace from the action blockbusters. Now, an all-new horror movie will be joining the summer slate as The Apparition, starring a trio of strong actors, has debuted its first trailer and showcases a pretty interesting blend of style.

I’m willing to admit that this trailer really did nothing for me in terms of wanting to go see the movie, as a lot of it comes off as misconveyed and a weird concept to boot. While the science may want to ground the story into reality, the fact that the entity haunting them is simply a product of their beliefs and therefore their imagination is just weird and doesn’t really give strength to the villain. What happens to intrigue me the most is the mix of both the regular feature and found footage type material. While even I’m starting to get sick of found footage, the possibility that they might even use it in a traditional horror outing like this is at least intriguing.

When frightening events start to occur in their home, young couple Kelly and Ben discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural, but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force…

Starring Ashley Greene (Twilight), Sebastian Stan (Once Upon a Time), and Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and written/directed by Todd Lincoln, The Apparition hits theaters on August 24th.
