Square Enix Announces ‘Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance’ Mark of Mastery Edition

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance only has a few months from debuting here in the States, and the fact it will continue the console’s story directly is a very impressive feat. Landing on the Nintendo 3DS this summer, and using the AR Card add-on that Kid Icarus: Uprising used just two months ago, the title promises to lead directly into Kingdom Hearts III, which fans have been dying to see for years now. With that anticipation, Square Enix wants to give fans something a little special for just a little extra coin, and they’ve announced today that you can truly get more bang for your buck with a special edition to be released day-and-date with the upcoming game.

The developer announced that for only $15 more than the game itself, you can get a pack called the Mark of Mastery edition. In the box, you get the game, a special magnetic case, 12 art cards celebrating the 10th anniversary of the series, 5 exclusive and rare AR cards for use within the game, and a special Kingdom Hearts branded 3DS protector case with the 10th Anniversary insignia.

The special edition is made exclusively for North America after Europe and Japan received their own special releases, and will be made available the same day as the game’s launch on July 31st. Square Enix stresses that the Mark of Mastery edition is a limited offer that will eventually stop production, but you should easily be able to get your hands on it while you can.

The game alone will only be retailed at $39.99 but you can upgrade to the Mark of Mastery edition for only $54.99, which is still cheaper than a console title. For a look at the contents of the special edition, click the image below for a much larger look:

Dream Drop Distance is a continuation of the events shown in the epilogue of Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, where Yen Sid decides to put Sora and Riku through a Mark of Mastery exam in response to Master Xehanort’s eventual return, caused by the defeat of “Ansem” and Xemnas in the past. The game takes players to more Disney worlds that are from past films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Three Musketeers, and Tron Legacy.

Among the actors reprising their previous roles, Haley Joel Osment, Jason Alexander, Jesse McCartney, Jesse David Corti, Jim Cummings, David Gallagher, James Patrick Stewart, Corey Burton, Bill Farmer, Bret Iwan, Quinton Flynn, Richard Epcar, and Russi Taylor are all confirmed to return.
