The biggest question for Marvel post-Avengers may just be the easiest: what’s next? With three consecutive sequels lined up for the next two years, Marvel obviously has some projects in the works that they are keeping secret for the time being. Now, it seems Marvel’s President of Production Kevin Feige is ready to tease just what the comic book company is ready to bring to the screen next.
In an interview with Bloomberg discussing the success of The Avengers, Feige said “We want to do usually two films a year. Avengers is our only film this year, in a week and a half we start filming Iron Man 3…by the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America film, those are the three that we’ve announced so far. We’ve got two beyond that we haven’t announced yet but we’re working on it.”
Now, one of those two films happens to be the very mysterious May 16th, 2014 film that was previously revealed as the date was set by Walt Disney Pictures. This is the film admission that Marvel is working on another film beyond that, and it really could be a number of projects. Ant-Man seems like the likliest one, while other films in contention are a new Hulk film, a S.H.I.E.L.D. film, a standalone Black Widow movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. It’s said that the 2014 film will be revealed by Comic-Con, while the fact of another film would land the project in 2015 which is exactly where the next Hulk film was said to open.
Obviously The Avengers 2 would be an extremely obvious answer, but we also have to take into consideration that Feige has mentioned they are two films that the company hasn’t announced yet. It’s unclear whether or not Ant-Man falls into this category, as Feige has talked openly about the project time and time again. Then again, Walt Disney Pictures has yet to formally announce the flick, and it could in fact be one of the projects that are coming up.
It seems we’ll just have to wait and see until then.
