Juno Temple Joins ‘Maleficent’ with Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, and Sharlto Copley

Temple

Juno Temple has had a seemingly rocky start in her career her in the States that may just become a lot more smooth come this summer. Her first true mainstream debut stateside came with the bomb Year One, and she hasn’t exactly been in the critics’ best interests with fellow failures Dirty Girl and The Three Musketeers. With a highly anticipated blockbuster on her belt, she’s look to truly get some traction in Hollywood, and she may have found the right follow-up to do so as she has just signed on for an upcoming high-profile Disney feature.

THR reports that Temple has joined Maleficent, the upcoming live-action prequel of sorts to Disney’s animation masterpieceSleeping Beauty, with Angelina Jolie playing the titular villain that will come to tell just how she came to curse Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) on her 16th birthday. Sharlto Copely, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Kenneth Cranham, Sam Riley, and Lesley Manville are all in the film as well.

Temple will join the two Harry Potter alumni Staunton and Richardson as the actress make up a trio of pixies who inSleeping Beauty take care of Aurora in the cottage in the woods. Temple’s character will be, “Thistletwit who, like the other two pixies, Knotgrass and Flittle, is neglectful and superficial.”

Production is currently scheduled to start on Memorial Day weekend in London, though that may change at the pace that casting has been going. The script comes from Linda Woolverton (The Lion KingBeauty and the Beast), while produced by Joe Roth. Director Robert Stromberg, Woolverton, and Roth all worked together on 2010′s Disney/Tim Burton live-action Alice in Wonderland, with Stromberg also a production designer for that film as well, while the other two resumed their same roles here.

Temple will be seen this summer in the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy The Dark Knight Rises in an undisclosed role, though rumors have swirled that she is tied directly to Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway). Temple recently wrapped on the film Magic Magic which features her Year Oneco-star Michael Cera along with fellow actress Emily Browning.

Maleficent is slated for a March 14th, 2014 release.
