If there’s anything that’s becoming incredibly clear about the next season of American Horror Story, it’s that Jessica Lange’s main character has a lot of enemies. As casting has gone underway these past few months, most of the character details for each new role paint the new faces as ones who have a vendetta for Lange’s lead role. Now, that information doesn’t change as Lange gains another enemy in the form of aBabe actor.
Deadline reveals that James Cromwell has been signed to a 10-episode arc on the next season of FX’s hit horror dramaAmerican Horror Story.
Cromwell will be playing the role of Dr. Arden, an employee as the East Coast criminally insane institution under Jessica Lange’s character. It’s said that he goes “head-to-head” with Lange, effectively creating another antagonist against Lange. This will be the actor’s first high-profile regular role on television since his portrayal of Phillip Bauer on FOX’s 24 over five years ago.
Cromwell joins fellow newcomers Chloe Sevigny, Adam Levine, and Lizzie Brocheré, along with returning actors playing new characters Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe.
There’s no indication as of yet as to what the supernatural premise will be this time around, as creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hinted that there will always be an element of the genre that propels the overarching story. While last season’s revolved around ghosts and a haunted house, along with the theme of infiedelity, both the theme and element have yet to be revealed.
Filming is scheduled to begin in July, with a premiere date set for sometime around Halloween.
