‘Friday Night Lights’ Star Joins ‘Breaking Bad’ For Season 5

Plemons in Battleship

Ever since the end of Friday Night Lights, Jesse Plemons has been no stranger to both the big and small screen. The actor has starred in the short lived NBC comedy Bent, while also co-starring in bigger ventures such as Battleship and last year’s alien comedy Paul. Now, Plemons is ready to flex his drama roots once more by appearing in one of the top series on television in a big role.

TV Line reports that Plemons has signed up for a major recurring role on the fifth season of Breaking Bad. “He’ll play Todd, a dependable, innocuous, working-class guy in the show’s fifth and final season (which is slated to kick off in July and will be broken up into two eight-episode chunks). However, his character may not be what he appears to be.”

No official premiere date for the new season has yet been revealed, and the first half of the 16 episode order is currently nearing the end of the production. Once production ends, creative will mold the final eight episodes of the series until filming kicks back off in November for a final premiere sometime next year.

Creator Vince Gilligan recently spoke on the 16 episode split, saying ”I’m very happy about that. I like the idea of us being around a couple more years. And, quite frankly, I’m quite happy about the idea of having more time to write and edit these episodes – it’s the greatest boon allowed by this particular scheduling structure.”
