With the summer almost here, this means new series are ready to begin occupying your television for brand new shows and the return of some mid-year favorites. HBO is gearing up the fifth season of True Blood, which brings not only an old villain back but some new characters forward as well. The network released the first trailer for the hit supernatural drama last night, and it features quite the escalation of tension.

While the trailer certainly speeds right through, the major focus here is on The Authority who very much wants to keep the vampires in check. After four seasons of slaying humans for blood, it seems the body count is getting high enough to attract some very unwanted attention. While The Authority does seem like the big villain this season, you have to wonder if whether or not they could in fact be doing the right thing. Their seeking to stop human deaths before they end up rising against the vampire species. Then again, if the human do in fact rise up, we could be on our way to one hell of a season that sees a major war begin between the mortals and the immortals.

True Blood‘s fifth season begins June 10th at 9PM only on HBO.
