After a long wait, plenty of buzz, and even a great deal of set photos and videos, Les Miserablesis ready to show what it’s made of. With an all-star line-up teaming with a director fresh off of an Oscar winning Best Picture, the expectations are just a little high for the Broadway fans who truly love the musical that has taken a world by storm. Now, the first trailer for the film has been unveiled, and Anne Hathaway is the one belting out in the teaser trailer.
Though only the first trailer, it’s certainly an impression many have been waiting for. While non-fans aren’t exactly given much to go on just yet, the emphasis on Hathaway’s character of Fantine as she sings her very sad “I Dreamed a Dream” is nearly perfect as we get to see somwhat of an evoultion of her character. As for Tom Hooper’s direction, there is a very realistic feel to it that’s thankfully not as stylized as other Broadway-to-film adaptations can be, and it looks to be a gripping drama all the same.
Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a Frenchman imprisoned for stealing bread, must flee from police Inspector Javert (Russell Crowe). The pursuit consumes both men’s lives, and after two decades on the run, Valjean finds himself in the midst of the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris.
Directed by Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), and starring Jackman, Crowe, Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, and more, Les Miserables is set for a December 14th release.
