James Patterson has had quite the best-selling detective series with his Alex Cross novels, which has in fact already been adapted to the big screen twice with Morgan Freeman as the famous detective in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Now, Alex Cross is returning to theaters with a new face on the main character detective, and a story that definitely separates itself from any novel so far. And today, the first official stills from the film have popped up, with Matthew Fox certainly looking like he’s giving it his all.
The Film Stage posted the stills this past week, and it gives us our first looks at Cross (played by Tyler Perry) who is on the lookout for the ruthless assassin Michael Sullivan (Fox) who murdered Cross’ wife. Eddie Burns plays Perry’s partner, and is joined by co-stars Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Rachel Nichols, and Jean Reno.
Directed by Rob Cohen (xXx), the film is in fact a very loose adaptation of the 16th novel in the series I, Alex Cross. However, it’s said the film works as its own original story, so fans of the novels may not want to hold the source material too close to heart. While many aren’t exactly hoping too much out of the film, especially with Cohen at the helm, the film could surprise a good amount of people. Fox’s performance in the pictures below looks absolutely diabolocal, and could in fact be one of the most talked about pieces of the upcoming crime drama.
Alex Cross hits later this year on October 26th.
